Full Description

THE ORIGINAL ELECTRICITY WORKS BUILT BY LINCOLN CORPORATION IN 1898 WAS LATER CONVERTED TO OFFICES AND STILL STANDS EMPTY. BEHIND IT IS THE SHELL OF THE LARGE 1913 EXTENSION TO THE WORKS. {1}{2}~ THE BUILDINGS HAVE AN OFFICE BLOCK AT THE FRONT, OF BRICK WITH STONE DRESSINGS, STONE 'MULLIONED' WINDOWS, ORNAMENTAL CHIMNEYS AND A CARVED STONE DOORWAY WITH THE CITY CREST AND 'ELECTRICITY WORKS' INSCRIBED ABOVE. DESCRIBED IN THE 1960s AS VERY ATTRACTIVE AND IN REASONABLE CONDITION THOUGH DISUSED FOR SOME YEARS. THE BUILDINGS AT THE REAR WERE DESCRIBED AS NONDESCRIPT. EXTENDED IN 1913 (COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUE), WITH CAST IRON RUBBING POSTS ON THE CORNER OF THE FRONT BLOCK BY DUCKERINGS. BRICK, IN ENGLISH BOND. {3}~
