Full Description
The medieval settlement of Swinethorpe is first documented in 1181, and at that time was known as Suenestorp. The name means 'Sveinns secondary settlement of Eagle'. {1}
Medieval ridge and furrow was noted in these fields during archaeological monitoring of a water pipeline, and from aerial photographs. Medieval pottery sherds have also been recovered from this area. {2}{3}{4}
Possible settlement remains have been noted on the east side of the road at the main right angle bend at Swinethorpe. {5}
