Full Description

THIS WAS PART OF THE LANCASHIRE, DERBYSHIRE AND EAST COAST RAILWAY BUILT FROM LINCOLN TO CHESTERFIELD AND OPENED 8TH MARCH 1897. IT WAS CLOSED TO PASSENGERS C.1955, AND TO GOODS IN 1981. IT WAS TAKEN OVER BY GREAT CENTRAL RAILWAY IN 1907. BY 1964 THE ONLY BUILDINGS REMAINING WERE THE GOODS SHED, SIGNAL BOX AND THE OLD WEIGHT HOUSE THEN USED AS A LAMP ROOM. THE GOODS YARD WAS THEN USED BY A LOCAL FERTILISER FIRM FOR THE STORAGE OF LIQUID FERTILISER. THE LEVEL CROSSING WAS OPERATED FROM INSIDE THE SIGNAL BOX. OTHER FITTINGS HAD BEEN REMOVED. {1}
