Full Description

PRN 60648 During excavation in advance of a housing development some evidence of peripheral Romano-British activity was revealed. Three severely truncated features were uncovered, containing highly fragmented sherds of first century AD pottery and a possible Romano-British pit was also found. Elsewhere Romano-British pottery was spread thinly across the site with a date range from the first to the fourth century. The pottery was chiefly domestic/culinary and the collection is suggestive of midden dumped household rubbish and probably derives from the scattering of manure during limited ploughing. {1}{2} This material may also indicate the presence of a nearby Romano-British settlement. {4}
