Full Description

60567 During a watching brief in February 1996, two gullies and four ditches were identified. These have been interpreted as being the remains of post medieval agricultural activity. Also, a brick and clay-lined well was located, surrounded by 3 post-holes. These post-holes would have contained timber structures associated with the use of the well, probably a canopy to help keep the water clean. After an indeterminate period, the well was backfilled by clay containing possible fragments of metal-working slag. This feature had previously been interpreted as a kiln by geophysical survey, because of the strong signal detected from the slag remains. {1}{2}{3}
