Full Description

An Acheulean Palaeolithic handaxe was found in 1989, on a reject heap of the Redlands Aggregates Hykeham gravel quarry. The axe was made from a worn rolled cobble of quartzite, extracted from the Balderton Sand and Gravel (Ipswichian Interglacial) layer of the quarry, and was similar to finds from the Hilton Terrace Gravels near Derby. {1}{2}
