Full Description

PRN 60411 [Note - this record includes information from duplicate record PRN 64698, now deleted.] The present Girls' High School (PRN 64697) in Jermyn Street was designed by Charles Kirk for himself before 1850. Built into a wall are two fragments of interlace, probably 11th century, acquired by Kirk in the course of his church restorations. The original provenance of the stones is thus unknown. Measuring 18' by 14' the fragments have an interlaced design, similar to but larger than that on the fragments at Kirkby La Thorpe. They may possibly be from a cross shaft? {1}{2}{3}{4} Built into a wall of the High School are two pre-Conquest fragments of interlace, probably 11th century. {5} These are probably two pieces of the same carved grave-cover which is of mid 10th-early 11th century date and of typical mid-Kesteven type. {6}
