Full Description

PRN 60370 In 1847 a group of Anglo-Saxon artefacts were found. They were discovered on 'High Dyke', which is an alternative name for Ermine Street. The collection may have possibly come from a single female grave. They consist of a large Anglo-Saxon square headed fibular with large excrescences on the lappets, foot and head plate originally fitted with silver or tinned discs. The decoration of the head and box are extremely crude; a flat sectioned bronze annular brooch with a rudimentary punched dot pattern around the centre line; one pair of very plain bronze wrist clasps of curved section with tap and slot fastening. Forty-one beads were also found; one crystal bead; twelve amber, one jet and twenty-seven of glass. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}
