SURVEY OF POSSIBLE BARROW CEMETERY CARRIED OUT BY SLAU IN 1978. SOME CONTOUR SURVEYS AND SOIL SAMPLES TAKEN; ALSO MEASUREMENTS OF SOIL LEVELS AND LAYERS IN DITCH SECTION SHOWING RELATIONSHIPS OF MOUNDS TO THE PEAT. {1} SKETCH MAP AND PHOTOS IN PARISH FILE SHOWING SOILMARKS OF AT LEAST 18 BARROWS SEEN DURING PLOUGHING IN AUTUMN 1988. {2}{3} One of the barrows was excavated in 1988. The excavation reached the pre-Flandrian ground level at approximately 1.5m below the top of the mound. The material of the mound appeared to have been composed of sand and gravel. There was an inhumation burial of an adult male, who had been buried in a coffin. The remains of two other burials, one infant and one neo-nate, were also recovered. {4}{5}
