A ROUND, SOMEWHAT IRREGULAR MOUND 17 PACES ACROSS AND 2 FEET HIGH. PROBABLE BARROW BUT NOTE THE NAME BEACON HILL. THIS FEATURE IS A BEACON MOUND SUPERIMPOSED ON RIDGE AND FURROW PLOUGHING. THE REV. COLE NOTES 'BEACON HILL SOUTH HYKEHAM TOGETHER WITH HOUGH ON THE HILL, NEWARK, FORMED PART OF THE CHAIN BETWEEN BELVOIR AND LINCOLN WHICH WAS USED AT THE TIME OF THE ARMADA'. {1}
