Full Description

60268 Aubourn Hall was probably built in about 1550. It was altered and added to considerably between 1587 and 1628 by Sir John Meres. The Tudor House may have followed the present L-plan, for there are bits of rubbed brick mullions in the north east angle. It is constructed of rose-red brick with stone mullions and transoms. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5} The building has an L-shaped plan, and three storeys. The interior has seventeenth century oak panelling and fireplace overmantels. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {6} There are earthworks surrounding the house which may be garden features, including possible dry ponds and old water courses, associated with the house. It has also been suggested that the earthworks may be the remains of medieval settlement (61906), which could have been reused as garden features. {7}{8} Aubourn Hall, Aubourn with Haddington. Partially extant 16th century farmstead. Regular courtyard with L-plan range plus detached buildings to the third side of the yard. The farmhouse is detached from the main working complex. There has been a partial loss (less than 50%) of traditional buildings. Located within a Church and/or Manor farm group. {9}
