Full Description

PRN 54102 A LARGE AREA OF CROPMARKS, THE MAJORITY SUGGESTIVE OF POST MEDIEVAL FIELD BOUNDARIES. TWO SUB-CIRCULAR FEATURES ARE ALSO PRESENT AND MAY BE RING DITCHES. A LINEAR FEATURE LEADS EAST FROM THE NORTHERN OF THE TWO CIRCULAR FEATURES. AN OVAL FEATURE AT THE SOUTHERN END OF THIS COMPLEX MAY BE A MODERN POND. (see PRN 54155). TWO POORLY DEFINED LINEAR FEATURES MAY REPRESENT FORMER COURSES OF MIDDLE STREET. {1} A geophysical survey along part of the Cottam pipeline route provided no evidence for additional archaeological features at the site, however a weak E-W linear anomaly was observed, and may relate to a ditch. {2} No archaeological finds or features were recorded during the watching brief at this site during pipeline construction. The linear feature revealed by geophysical survey turned out to be a linear scatter of underlying limestone. {3}
