Full Description

Cropmarks of a complex of rectilinear enclosures of possible prehistoric or Roman date, to the west of Laughton. The visible cropmarks include two main rectilinear enclosures, each measuring 90m by 110m and centred at SK 8265 9742 and SK 8265 9751. The north side of the northernmost enclosure and the south side of the southernmost enclosure are double ditched. A narrow gap, 10m wide and possibly the remains of a track, is visible between the two enclosures. The northern enclosure is bisected by an internal division and contains two circular enclosures, 5m and 10m in diameter, and a rectilinear enclosure measuring 20m by 10m. The southern enclosure contains three enclosures ranging in size from 60m by 30m to 20m by 20m. Although unusual in form this site probably represents the remains of a settlement or farmstead. Identified on aerial photography examined as part of the National Mapping Programme. {1}
