Full Description

Earthwork remains of medieval ridge and furrow surviving adjacent to Lodge Farm, visible on aerial photography taken of this area. Most of the ridge and furrow is aligned on a roughly north to south axis, though a small block at the south-eastern end is aligned roughly east to west, marking a subdivision of the former open field system here. Earthworks of what was interpreted as a possible linear feature were also noted by the National Mapping Programme, towards the eastern edge of the field. {1}{2}{3} The feature originally thought to be a broad linear feature matches the shape and location of a small pond of probable post-medieval date, which is marked on the 2nd edition 25" Ordnance Survey County Series map. {4} Further traces of medieval ridge and furrow than that previously identified can be discerned on recent lidar data, extending under the more recent tree plantation to the east. {5}
