AN ARCHAEOLOGICAL EVALUATION IN THE REAR GARDEN OF THE FORMER BRITISH LEGION CLUB, BANK LANE IDENTIFIED A PROBABLE MEDIEVAL WALL AND A SURFACE INDICATING OCCUPATION, PROBABLY ALONG THE BANK LANE FRONTAGE IN THE TWELFTH CENTURY FOLLOWED BY SOME DEMOLITION AND STONE ROBBING PERHAPS OF NEARBY BUILDINGS. IN THE THIRTEENTH CENTURY THERE WAS RENEWED CONSTRUCTION IN THE AREA AND THE LAYING OF A POSSIBLE YARD SURFACE. FROM THIS TIME ON THE AREA REVERTED TO PERMANENT GARDEN AND SOIL ACCUMULATED UNTIL THE NINETEENTH CENTURY. {1}{2}
