THE SETTLEMENT OF SNITTERBY, THOUGH SMALL DURING THE MEDIEVAL PERIOD, ENJOYED CONSIDERABLE GROWTH OVER THE LAST TWO CENTURIES. ITS LAYOUT IS BASED ON AN EAST-WEST STREET PARALLEL WITH SNITTERBY BECK. A SECOND STREET PARALLEL AND TO THE SOUTH WITH THE C19 CHURCH FORMING APRT OF ITS SINGLE-SIDED DEVELOPMENT LOOKS, AS AT PILHAM, LIKE A LATE (POSSIBLY ENCLOSURE) ROAD BY-PASSING THE EARLIER VILLAGE CORE. {1}{2}
