Full Description

PRN 53627 This tower mill is said by Rex Wailes to have been built in 1820, and was disused by 1899. The surrounding buildings were demolished by 1994 after the laundry on the site closed down. There are no other surviving buildings. By 1991 it was a five storey roofless tower, with no internal floors, other than a reinforced concrete strongroom on the ground floor, believed to have been constructed in the Second World War as a home guard base. It was converted into an office in 1994 with new floors, ogee timber cap, no sails, and a two storey extension on the north side. The height is 43 feet and has a diameter of 23 feet. {1}{2} An early 19th century red brick tower mill.
