Full Description

ONE OF THE FEW POST MILL FRAGMENTS TO SURVIVE, THIS MILL WAS SIMILAR IN APPEARANCE TO THOSE AT WRAWBY AND BURTON UPON STATHER. LITTLE IS KNOWN ABOUT IT, IT PROBABLY DATES FROM THE C18 BUT AS IT DID NOT APPEAR AT THIS SITE UNTIL THE 1840'S IT WAS PROBABLY MOVED FROM ELSEWHERE (THE BODILY REMOVAL OF POST MILLS WAS A FAIRLY COMMON OCCURRENCE AT ONE TIME.) IT WORKED UNTIL JUST PRIOR TO THE GREAT WAR AND WAS DEMOLISHED BY THE EARLY 1920'S. A PHOTOGRAPH IN THE LINCOLNSHIRE MILL ARCHIVE SHOWS IT TO HAVE HAD TWO PATENT SAILS. ITS INTERNAL ARRANGEMENT IS NOT KNOWN, BUT IT IS REASONABLE TO EXPECT TWO PAIRS OF STONES TO HAVE BEEN CARRIED, PROBABLY ARRANGED IN THE HEAD AND TAIL. THE TWO-STOREYED ROUNDHOUSE REMAINS WITH A SCRUFFY PITCHED RROF AND IS DISUSED. ONE CROSS TREE REMAINS IN PLACE. {1}
