Full Description
ROMAN COIN OF MAGNENTIUS AND POTTERY FOUND IN THIS AREA. ALSO, FROM ADJACENT FIELD A MORTARIUM STAMP WAS FOUND IVN . IT IS FROM ONE OF THE NUMEROUS DIES OF JUNIUS, WHO WORKED AT HARTSHILL AND MANCETTER IN WARWICKSHIRE. HE APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN ASSOCIATED AT DIFFERENT TIMES WITH 2 OTHER MORTARIUM POTTERS, BRUSCIUS AND SARRIUS. 56 STAMPS OF HIS ARE NOW KNOWN FROM SITES THROUGHOUT ENGLAND. 2 STAMPS FROM BAINBRIDGE MUST BE LATER THAN C.AD 160, AND HIS ASSOCIATION WITH THE WELL-DATED POTTERS, BRUSCIUS AND SARRIUS LEAVES NO DOUBT OF THE GENERAL DATE OF HIS WORK. THE SUGGESTED PERIOD FOR HIS ACTIVITY C.AD 160-190. IN CCM. {1}
