Full Description

The Priory was dissolved in 1538 and in 1539 its site and lands were granted to Sir Thomas Heneage. A substantial post-dissolution house must have existed on the site, since the third and fourth sons of Sir Thomas Heneage were born at Sixhills Grange in 1594 and 1599 and the place figures in the late 17th and early 18th century Heneage settlements and leases. In addition there seems to have been a small hamlet there in the late 16th and 17th century; in 1563 the Diocesan Survey records two households on the site. The present house, The Grange, though said to be of 16th or 17th century date possibly incorporating part of a medieval structure, carries two date stones of 1747. {1}
