Summary

GREENSTONE AXE

Type and Period (1)

  • (Early Neolithic to Late Neolithic - 4000 BC to 2351 BC)

Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Full Description

A greenstone axe with a retouched blade, almost certainly Great Langdale, was found in a garden in 1968. {1} Probably the polished stone axe from the collection seen by the HER in 2006 although the findspot for this axehead was not known. The small axehead was about 95mm by 55mm and the blade was not symmetrical suggesting perhaps that it had been reworked. {2}
