The destruction of the earthworks in 1977 revealed Anglo-Saxon hand made fabric and Saxo-Norman (St Neots) pottery. {1}{2}
The destruction of the earthworks in 1977 also revealed buildings formed on padstones and medieval pottery. Documentary and field name evidence suggest that a green formed part of the medieval village plan. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}
The village was in existence by the 11th century, but appears to have been declining from these 11th century levels by the 14th century. This decline appeared to continue into the 15th century. Although the sharpest impact on the population came in the 17th century. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}
The road alignment, map and field evidence suggest that recovery from this population low diverted the main street south, leaving earthworks along the north divorced from the street. Their destruction revealed evidence of building padstones and early post medieval pottery. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}
