Full Description

A water mill existed on Dunholme Mill Field from 1202 until the mid 17th century. Carved stone was recorded in 1959 and further excavations revealed evidence of buildings, possibly mill outbuildings. Millstone fragments were also found, however, the bulk of the evidence is thought to be domestic rubbish from the mill house and dates from the 17th to the 19th century. Excavations did not reveal any medieval evidence, although it is thought that they may exist at lower levels. The mill became ruinous in the 19th century, although one source states that the mill ran had run into decay by 1674. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}
