Full Description

The former Stow Park Railway Station was built in 1849 and consisted of a station house and signal box [PRN 56016]. The former is closed, while the latter is still in use [in 1993]. The house is currently empty, and was last lived occupied in c.1970. The house is in original condition, and retains original rooms and fireplaces. The former kitchen has a range with GNR cast on it. The coal heater in the waiting room also has GNR cast on it. The booking office also retains all its original furniture and fittings. The signal box has original frame and gate wheel; the gates are traditional wooden examples. The goods shed was used as part of the road fuel depot. It also had a weighing machine of which the condition was poor in 1965 (height three feet nine, width two feet nine, length two feet nine), and a letter box, (height two feet and width nine inches) of good condition in 1965. It was closed for passengers on the 11th September 1961 and for goods on the 25th May 1964. The station house is a rare unaltered survival of its type retaining many original features. {1} For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {4}
