Full Description

THE MONASTIC GRANGE LIES IN THE EXTREME NORTH-WEST CORNER OF INGLEBY TOWNSHIP AND WAS THE AUGUSTINIAN PRIORY OF NOCTON PARK'S GRANGE CALLED ALDHAGH. IT PASSED TO CHARLES BRANDON, DUKE OF SUFFOLK AT THE DISSOLUTION. IN 1977 A POSSIBLE BOUNDARY WALL, SPREADS OF LIMESTONE BUILDING DEBRIS OVER LINES OF BUILDING FOUNDATIONS WERE DISCOVERED. ACCESS FROM THE EAST TO THE LAND BLOCK PRESUMABLY WAS ALONG THE FIELD-WAYKNOWN AS OLD WIFE'S LANE (APPARENTLY POPULAR ENTYMOLOGY OF THE MEDIEVAL GRANGE NAME). {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}
