Full Description

A perforated basalt axe hammer of Bronze Age date was found 'many years ago' on land near Saxilby. The exact findspot is unknown. The artefact was originally donated to the Lincoln Castle Museum, later being transferred to Lincoln Museum, following the closure of the Castle Museum. {1}{2}{3}{4} The artefact was thin-sectioned and thought to be of dolerite basaltic stone. {5}
