Full Description

The foot of a bronze cruciform long brooch of early Anglo-Saxon date was found at Newton on Trent. The fragment is of Aberg's group II, and is in the form of a stylised horse's head with half-round nostrils and prominent eyes. On conventional typological dating, the piece belongs to the last part of the 5th century or the first part of the 6th century. {1}{2}
