Full Description

PRN 52566 St Peter's Church was restored in 1876-9 when the Early English arcade of a north aisle was opened out. A small Norman window was found in the south wall. The church was in regular use in 1962. {1}{2} During a watching brief, medieval limestone pier base's were recorded between the north aisle and nave. The medieval floor surface consisting of lime mortar was also identified. A sand stone wall dating back to restorations of 1818 was recorded, believed to from be the infilling of the arcade. {4}{5} The church was built in the 12th century and underwent alterations in the 13th and 15th centuries and was restored in 1876.
