Full Description
POSSIBLE DESERTED SETTLEMENT OR FARM OF GORWICK IS SUGGESTED BY MINOR NAMES AND PERSONAL NAMES IN THE C13 AND C14. THE NAME MEANS 'DIRTY FARM'. ITS LOCATION IN THAT SOUTH WEST PART OF STURTON PARISH NOW REPRESENTED BY WESTWOODS IS IDENTIFIED BY C19 FIELD NAMES AND BY 'GORWICK LANE' ON OS MAPS. THERE IS NO FIELD EVIDENCE YET TO SUPPORT THE SUGGESTION. {1}
