Full Description

This tower mill was built in 1815 as a 'subscription mill'. It worked until the early 1950's, losing its sails in late 1954. It was gutted in the late 1950's but the cap was left in place, allowing the restorers of Lincoln Mill to obtain a new windshaft and barkewheel for their mill from here in 1978. Part of the deal was to reinstate the cap so a fibreglass replica was made and fitted that year. It is not quite the same shape as the original but improves the tower's appearance nevertheless. No machinery remains but the tower is preserved. There were four patent sails driving one pair of grey and two pairs of french stones. {1} A tower mill, built in 1801 from tarred red brick. {4}
