Full Description

A named settlement of Stow Park is recorded from at least the early 14th century and in the 15th century as an ancillary to Stow. The full size and extent of the settlement is unknown. It is uncertain whether the origin of the settlement was wholly dependent on the medieval Bishop's Palace (see PRN 54199) as it appears, or whether the moat was built on the edge of a pre-existing settlement. {1} The remains of the settlement are visible as cropmarks in aerial photographs. The cropmarks were identified and recorded by the National Mapping Programme. {2}{3}{4}
