Full Description

Built by 1827, this tower mill had two pairs of stones, one French and one grey. At some time it was raised by a storey and it worked until the 1920s by wind, losing its sails by 1931. From that point it was engine-driven. When the last miller died, in 1932, it became disused and was subsequently dismantled. There were four patent sails. The tower has lost the top portion and is now at about the height at which it began its life. It was disused until 1985, but has now been made part of commercial premises established in the adjoining buildings. {1} The windmill is depicted on the 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey Map of 1905.{2} A photographic building survey was undertaken in February 2006. From title deeds, the mill appears to have been built in 1838 of three storeys. It was powered by four patent sails which drove two pairs of stones. A fourth storey was added in the 1850s, but this was removed by the 1950s. The mill now stands derelict and in generally poor condition amongst other derelict farm buildings.{3}
