Full Description

OSGODBY IS ONE OF FOUR SETTLEMENTS IN THE AREA. ASSESSMENT OF POPULATION IS DIFFICULT BECAUSE TENURIAL RECORDS REGULARLY INCLUDE KIRKBY. AT FIRST SIGHT OSGODBY IS MORPHOLOGICALLY A SIMPLE TWO-ROW STREET VILLAGE BASED ON A SLIGHTLY MEANDERING EW ROAD. HOWEVER, THE SETTLEMENT MAYBE MORE COMPLEX THAN THIS SUGGESTS. FOR DETAILS SEE CHANGE AND CONTINUITY. {1} MEDIEVAL PITCHER HANDLE OF C13-C14 DATE FOUND IN YARD OF RED HOUSE. {4}{5} BUILDING MATERIAL FOUND IN OSGODBY VILLAGE; INCLUDING FOUNDATIONS, WALLS, COURTYARD, ROAD ETC. ALSO PLAN SHOWING ASH DEPOSIT IN PARISH FILE. {6}
