A TRIAL EXCAVATION CONDUCTED BY A PARTY FROM DE ASTON SCHOOL ENCOUNTERED A ROMAN LEVEL CONTAINING AN AREA OF SMALL COBBLES, IN ASSOCIATION WITH A STONE- LINED POST HOLE AND THE BASE OF A SMALL JAR IN A DARK BROWN, HEAVILY GRITTED FABRIC, AND A PROBABLE MIDDEN IN WHICH WERE ANIMAL BONES AND MUCH FRAGMENTARY POTTERY. THE LATTER INCLUDED THE NECK OF A FLAGON OF C2 TYPE, AND A SINGLE SHERD OF AMPHORA. AN ASSOCIATED DITCH MAY BELONG TO OVERLYING MEDIEVAL LEVELS (DMV). {1}{2}
