Full Description

Cropmarks of a number of enclosures and boundary ditches of possible prehistoric or Roman date, on land to the north-east of Swallow. The features identified include a rectangular enclosure, centred at TA 1880 0384, and measuring 40m by 30m, with an entrance to the west. Two boundary ditches, approximately 50m in length, lie immediately to the east. To the south, at TA 1884 0373, are fragments of three sides of a potential enclosure, 75m in length. To the north, at TA 1883 0393 are three sides of an incomplete enclosure, 50m by 30m, although its eastern side is obscured by a modern boundary. Identified on aerial photography examined as part of the National Mapping Programme. {1} The western side of the rectangular enclosure centred at TA 1880 0384 was identified by geophysical survey in 2008, with the entrance clearly visible. The possible enclosure to the south was considered more likely to be a natural feature than of archaeological origin. {2}
