Possible unknown date cropmark boundary seen on aerial photographs and plotted by the National Mapping Programme. It is also visible at TF 1274 9702, TF 1266 9633. {1} This cropmark is part of a road. The eastern part of the present road running east from Normanby le Wold to the Caistor High Street was created in the 1850s and there are some quarter session orders stopping up and creating various highways in Normanby parish. This replaced a very narrow and indirect route for the road which had run in an indirect but roughly north-east direction to the join the High Street near Mount Pleasant farm. Its route can be seen on the one inch to the mile Ordnance Survey map published in 1824. This old road is clearly visible as a crop mark in the form of two dark parallel lines seen on the aerial photographs on Google maps. The farmer of Acre House Farm reported that he could remember these fields being ploughed for the first time to his knowledge in about the 1950s and the plough found a strip of very stony material. This stone was perhaps metalling from the route stopped up in the 1850s. {2}{3}{4}
