GOLD AUREUS STRUCK IN THE REIGN OF VESPASIAN. {1} IT HAS BEEN DECLARED NOT TREASURE TROVE. ITS OBVERSE LEGEND READS IMP VESPASIAN T CAESAR. IT IS NOT, THEREFORE, A COIN OF VESPASIAN HIMSELF AND THE PORTRAIT BEARS THIS OUT. T CAESAR IS AN ABBREVATION OF TITUS CAESAR, WHO DID IN FACT SERVE IN A LEGION BASED IN BRITAIN. THE COS V OVER THE BULL ON THE REVERSE PROCLAIMS THE FIFTH YEAR OF HIS CONSULSHIP AND SO DATES IT PRECISELY TO AD 76. FOR A DETAILED DESCRIPTION SEE ROMAN IMPERIAL COINAGE VOLUME II. {2}
