Full Description

Earthworks of medieval ridge and furrow to the west of Nettleton. Identified on aerial photography examined as part of the National Mapping Programme. {1} Further traces of ridge and furrow were recorded in December 2016, during magnetometry survey of land to the north of Moortown Road. The remains were identified as adjacent blocks of parallel linear magnetic anomalies, with those at the western edge of the site aligned on a north to south axis, and those in the centre of the site aligned on an east to west axis. This change in alignment between the two blocks may suggest that there was a division in the medieval open field system in this area. {2}
