Full Description

PRN 51488 Numerous skeletons found during lowering and levelling the centre of Ermine Street between Hackthorn Lodge and Aisthorpe Lodge in 1829. {1} A skeleton was recorded as being found during construction of a pipeline during 1936 at a distance of two paces from Ermine Street at Hackthorn. {5} Two inhumations were found on the 19th April 1956 during levelling of the agger of Ermine Street for an extension to the runway. These were close together and apparently under the agger at SK 972 806. {2} The sites and monuments record file records for Brattleby indicate an almost identical site, which is possibly a duplicate of the Hackthorn records. {3}{4}
