A PAIR OF PROBABLY ROMAN IRON HORSE BARNACLES FROM WEST FIRSBY, NOW IN THE BRITISH MUSEUM. THE BARNACLES ARE ILLUSTRATED IN THE JARVIS MANUSCRIPT p149, AND MAY ALSO BE REFERED TO ON pp433-7 '…ABOUT A QUARTER OF A MILE WESTWARDS FROM WEST FIRSBY DMV A CIST WAS FOUND…THERE TOO WERE FOUND THE SHEARS'. {1}{2}{5} BARNACLES ARE PINCERS USED TO GRIP THE NOSE OF A HORSE AS A RESTRAINT DURING SHOEING.
