Full Description

FROM A SMALL FIELD ON THE SCOTTON-LAUGHTON ROAD, DEREK RILEY OBTAINED ABOUT 4' OF THIN BRONZE STRIP, DOUBLED TO U-SECTION AND BENT TO FORM A SEGMENT OF A CIRCLE ABOUT 4 1/4' DIAMETER. SUCH MATERIAL WAS OFTEN USED TO FORM A FINISHED RIM OR ELSE ON OBJECTS SUCH AS BUCKETS, DRINKING HORNS, HELMETS AND SHIELDS, AND, IN VIEW OF THE SUGGESTED DIAMETER OF THE COMPLETE OBJECT, IT SEEMS PROBABLE THAT THIS SCOTTON BRONZE COMES FROM THE RIM OF A SMALL BUCKET. NOW IN SCUNTHORPE MUSEUM. {1}~ POSSIBLY FROM DEREK RILEY'S MULTI-PERIOD SITE PRN 51261-51265?
