Full Description

The medieval village of Bullington is separately assessed in the Subsidy Rolls. 73 people paid poll tax in the 14th century, but only 2 families are recorded in 1563. {1}{2} The location of the deserted medieval village of Bullington has been suggested as TF 093 779, at Bullington Hall, but the group of buildings that form the modern hamlet of Bullington clearly overlie ridge and furrow furlongs at this location. Whilst it is more likely that it lay alongside or very near the priory, no features belonging to it have been convincingly identified on aerial photography and the whole area is now under arable cultivation. See Everson, 1991, for a detailed history. {3} Paul Everson suggests that the deserted settlement site at Goltho Chapel is the medieval settlement of Bullington. See LHA, 1988, for a detailed discussion of the documentary and field evidence. {4}
