EARLY MAPS, ESPECIALLY THE TITHE AWARD MAP OF 1842, SUGGEST THAT THE LOWEST PART OF BARDNEY BECK MAY HAVE BEEN WIDENED AND STRAIGHTENED TO FORM A NAVIGABLE WATERWAY TO THE ABBEY SIMILAR TO THOSE THAT SERVED THE NEIGHBOURING MONASTERIES OF TUPHOLME AND BULLINGTON, AND PROBABLY BARLINGS AND STAINFIELD ALSO. {1}~
