Full Description

A POLISHED FLINT AXE FROM FILLINGHAM WAS PRESENTED TO LINCOLN MUSEUM IN 1920 BY MR C H FOWLER. IN 1964 HARPER REPORTED THAT MR FOWLER WAS NOT KNOWN IN FILLINGHAM BUT SEVERAL RESIDENTS BELIEVED THAT THE FIND WAS MADE IN A GARDEN AT SK94478594, AN AREA WHERE, IMMEDIATELY POST-WAR, 'THE REMAINS OF A STONE COFFIN, BONES AND A FEW FLINT ARTEFACTS WERE FOUND'. NONE OF THESE LATER FINDS HAD BEEN PRESERVED. {1}~ THIN SECTIONED AND FOUND TO BE OF CHERT. {4}~
