Full Description

A silver penny of William II (1087-1100) was found in the orchard of Glentham Manor House in 1977. The coin is of the 'Cross in Quatrefoil' type (BMC TYPE II), which was issued between 1090-1093. The coin was badly darkened and had a slight hairline crack. The coin is from the Durham mint, and is by the moneyer Ordwi. It is stamped on the reverse with '+ORDPIONDUN'. The die axis is 90 degrees. {1}{2}
