Full Description
A broken middle Bronze Age rapier found in 1959. Loaned to Lincoln Museum from 1961. In 1963 Harper reported that the finder had confirmed the find spot. In 1977 Andrew White, the museum curator, noted that the rapier was then in the finder's possession. {1}
Part of the blade of a middle Bronze Age rapier or short sword was ploughed up at Glentham Grange in 1958 or 1959. The surviving portion, which is slightly under six inches long, is from the lower part of the blade and includes the heel of the weapon with two rivet holes. The central rib is substantial, but the blade has been damaged: it appears to be reasonably complete on one side near the present tip, however, and the original width of the blade at this point was probably a little under one inch. {5}
