DOCUMENTARY REFERENCES TO A DAM, INCLUDING TWO CLOSE NAMES IN A WILL OF 1571 - 'DAM CLOSE' AND 'DAMMES END'. BINNALL SUGGESTS THAT THE BROOK FROM SPRING HILLS TURNED A MILL BEYOND THE WESTERN END OF BROOK STREET AND JUST EAST-NORTHEAST OF THE MANOR, TO WHICH HE BELIEVED IT WAS PROBABLY APPERTAINED. {1}~
