Full Description

WILLOUGHTON WAS RECORDED IN THE LATE C11 AS A LARGE SETTLEMENT OF TWO MANORS. THE EXTENT OF VACANT OLD ENCLOSURE TO THE EAST OF THE CHURCH, FLANKING THE FORMER EAST- WEST AXIAL STREET, AND SOME VAGUE TRACES OF EARTHWORKS IN THIS AREA, RAISES THE POSSIBILITY THAT THESE REPRESENT EARLIER ABANDONED VILLAGE PLOTS, DISREGARDED BY LATER, POST MEDIEVAL, VILLAGE REGROWTH ELSEWHERE. {1}{2}{3}
