Full Description

Part of an inscribed lead presentation casket or vessel, probably of the 3rd or 4th century was ploughed up at TF00169266. The inscription reads: '...do fecit felix...'. Now in Lincoln Museum. See the Journal of Roman Studies for a detailed description. {1}{2}{3}{4} Part of the base of a large lead tank was ploughed up from the same field in December 1955. Presumed to be another part of the same vessel, possibly a water tank or cistern. Now in Lincoln Museum. See Archaeological Notes of 1956 for a detailed description. {1}{2}{5}{6} Fieldwalking in March 1956 produced sherds of Romano-British pottery ranging in date from the 2nd to the 4th century, though not in large quantities. Nothing was found to suggest a stone building. From another site 400 yards to the south at TF002923 a few scraps of Romano-British pottery were recovered. {1}{2}{5}
