Full Description

A Neolithic axe was found in 1971, on land to the east of Snitterby Carr Lane. The axe was of flaked flint, with the blade partly polished. It measured 258mm long by 83mm wide at the maximum, with the axe tapering slightly towards the butt end. Typologically, the axe has affinities with the Greta Langdale-Scafell axe factories, but without the distinctive 'fish-tail' of the classic Cumbrian type axes. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}
